She was such a strong-willed woman and I loved how she put her heart into everything she did. I deeply felt for her and all she had to go through. It was nice to see this side of the characters, even though I don’t believe this is historically accurate.Īnastasia was a great protagonist. They all showed strength and forgiveness, even in front of the people who were holding them captive. The Romanov family was portrayed in a very good light and all the Romanovs never seemed to really rebel against the fate that was being decided for them. I liked how this book dealt with the historical period, you can clearly see that the author did a lot of research about this topic. Of course she wrote a work of fiction and so some things are invented. I was immediately drawn to this book because I’ve always been fascinated with the Romanov dynasty (we can all blame the animated movie for this, I still have dreams about Dimitri you guys) and also the mystery that for a lot of years surrounded the fate of Anastasia and Alexei. “The bond of our hearts spans miles, memory, and time.” But can Anastasia trust Zash, a soldier who seems different from the others? And what will she be willing to do in order to save her family and to not let her dynasty die?Ī copy of this book was provided by the publisher Thomas Nelson Fiction via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The Bolshevik soldiers, their captors, always keep an eye on them. During their exile Anastasia is entrusted by her father, the former tsar, with the task to protect a Matryoshka doll which is full of spells that can help the Romanov family in times of need.
